Current Projects » AIDS, Population, and Health Integrated Assistance (APHIA) II Evaluation, Kenya

2008 – 2013

The APHIA II Evaluation project, funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), aims to strengthen the capacity of the Kenya Ministry of Health’s National Health Management Information System and U.S. government implementing partners’ monitoring and evaluation (M&E) systems to collect and use data on HIV/AIDS, reproductive health and family planning (RH/FP), and maternal and child health (MCH). The project is designed to contribute substantively to the strengthening of “one national monitoring and evaluation framework” in Kenya.

Futures Group is a subcontractor to Macro International, with the following additional partners: Carolina Population Center at the University of North Carolina, Tulane University, and John Snow, Inc. Futures Group’s roles are in data demand and information use, developing a management information system in the education sector, initiating and supporting field verbal autopsy work, and other technical assistance.

APHIA II Evaluation targets four specific results:

  • Strengthened and well-coordinated HIV/AIDS, RH/FP, and MCH reporting and use of information among all Kenya’s implementing partners
  • Improved community-level data collection, reporting, presentation, and use in local and national information systems to promote better use of data in planning, policymaking, managing, monitoring, and evaluating HIV/AIDS programs
  • Strengthened and sustained institutional capacity building of local institutions through increased availability of skilled HIV/AIDS, population, and health M&E professionals in Kenya
  • Gaps filled in information on HIV/AIDS, RH/FP, and MCH
